If you have been following the news lately, you may have heard about the “million dollar baby”. A Canadian couple, expecting to have a child, went on a quick “Babymoon” to Hawaii during their pregnancy after getting clearance from their doctors and travel insurance of course. The mother ended up delivering the baby premature and spending a few weeks at a hospital in the U.S. Hospital – ultimately ringing up a bill of around $950,000. Their travel insurance company declined to pay the bill, citing that the mother had a pre-existing condition, that voided her insurance claim.
Travel insurance can be detrimental to many travelers. Nobody would want to be in the shoes of the new family we just mentioned. It is always best to do extensive research on the travel insurance plan you plan to purchase.
