Known as an epicenter of Buddhism and its expansive monasteries, Tibet is a place to see. The region is set in the Himalayas, with an average elevation of 4,900 meters, making it the highest inhabited region in the world. It is also changing very fast. Beijing is pouring in millions to bring Tibet up to date and to accommodate the tourism industry.

With Buddhism taking center stage in all religious and cultural activities, it may sound odd to hear that a sizable number of Muslims have been reported to be living in Tibet since the 8th or 9th century – including a well established Chinese Muslim community. IslamiChina, a website that serves as an information portal and service provider for Muslim visitors to China, even lists a Halal Hotel/Restaurant in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. Tibet might just be worth a visit!
