With winter holidays around the corner in much of the world, Umrah goers are expected to arrive by the thousands in Makkah this year. Controlling traffic in the city of the Grand Mosque is a huge undertaking for the authorities during this time of the year.
The Saudi government has instilled many efforts to control traffic, which are not limited to:
- Increased patrols by police
- Speeding tickets using newly installed traffic cameras
- Ban on trucks during peak hours
- Increased towing and impounding of cars of offenders
- Increasing number of check points
