With the recent events affecting the world, it is often hard to forget that most Muslims just want to live normal lives. There are some struggles, though, that are specific to Muslims.
1. Trying to complete your prayers, but those pesky kids won’t get off your backs. Sometimes literally.
And some kids don’t understand that it is NOT OK to be disturbing you while you pray.
2. Some of our lives really just revolve around the next visit to an awesome Halal Burger joint.
3. Telling people at work you are on a no carb diet on pizza day to avoid having to explain (for the 4 billionth time) to everyone individually that you cannot eat pepperoni.
…so you hop over to the pizza joint next door while no one is watching to get a slice of their cheese & eat it all by your lonesome.
4. Living in fear of referring to yourself as an extreme Muslim. Although you mean no harm to anyone.
5. Being very confused about some of the “facts” being mentioned on some of the news channels about Islam.
…but to your utter disbelief, you resort to laughter.
6. Death by boredom while you are trying to locate your mom and sister at the occasional segregated wedding.
7. Discovering new depths of stupidity every time someone asks a silly question about the Hijab.
8. People think they are being funny by asking you if you will be dressing up as Aladdin every Halloween. Just because you happen to be Muslim and male.
9. And then being asked if you have been spoken for since childhood.
